Hagar in Art - Outcast or Mother of the New?

On Friday  May 18th at the normal Art & Literature meeting starting at 10.30 a.m. prompt we are lucky to be having Rosalind Luper coming to talk to us on "Hagar in Art - Outcast or Mother of the New?"

She will show how this less well-known biblical character has been portrayed in art and  will be paying particular attention to the manner in which Dutch 17th century artists treated this story, and will consider what it has to tell us about relationships. There will be illustrations of paintings, tapestry and embroidery on this subject, with reference to the biblical texts to be found in Genesis - Chapters 16 and 21 in particular.

Everyone welcome to a new speaker on an extremely interesting subject and charge only £ 2 including the regular tea/coffee cakes and biscuits.
