Behaviour Management
Rabbi Eliezer says: "Let other people's dignity be as precious to you as your own." Pirke Avot 2:15."No one should say, 'Just as I have been humiliated, so, too, let others be humiliated.' Rabbi Tanchuma said: If you do so, know Whom you are humiliating [for the verse says] - 'He made him in the likeness of God'. (Genesis 5:1)" Genesis Rabbah 24.
As a school founded in Jewish ethics our aim is to treat one another - staff, parents and pupils - as created b'tselem elohim, in the image of God. We strive to give pupils the context to develop to their fullest potential which means creating a positive atmosphere in which pupils are enthusiastically engaged in their learning and in which disruptive behaviour does not occur.
A comprehensive approach to behaviour management at the cheder has been developed over the last few years and policies are distributed to all parents upon registration and as and when they are updated. Registration of a child at the cheder automatically indicates acceptance of these policies. In addition, we ask all parents to explain to their child(ren) what behaviour is expected of them as detailed in the Parent / School Charter.
If you are concerned about your or another child's behaviour at cheder or the way it has been dealt with, do take the opportunity to raise it with your child's teacher as soon as possible. Every attempt will be made to deal with the issue informally.
There is, in addition, a formal Complaints Procedure for dealing with complaints from either parents or staff. Please telephone or email the Head Teacher, Marian Conn, outlining as clearly as possible your concerns. She will then contact you with the aim of resolving matters quickly and equitably.
For more detail of the discipline policy see the following section of this area of the site.
