Services For Children - Shabbat Club
Shabbat Club is held on the 4th Saturday of the month, starting at 11am on the first floor of the synagogue building. The Club is aimed at the under 7s. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles are all welcome to join.
Services are run by parents with guest appearances by the Rabbi and typically comprise three stages. First, the children sing songs, talk about Shabbat and learn a little about the service, take turns in undressing and carrying the miniature Sefer Torah, and listen to stories, which often have a thematic link to that week’s parashah. Next they join the adult service, performing their songs and following the Torah procession before being blessed by the Rabbi. There are presents for those celebrating birthdays and chocolates for all, and the excitement continues with a Shabbat Club Kiddush upstairs: grape juice, challah and birthday cake. This is timed to allow those with any space left to seek out more goodies at the adult kiddush downstairs afterwards.
We hope that the Club has created a warm, friendly and fun way for the younger members of our community to enjoy Saturday mornings together. We hope to continue welcoming new children and families in the coming months.
Some comments from our participants about what they liked about Shabbat Club:
“Eating challah!” “I like the blessing of the grape juice”
“Taking out the Torah scroll” “Chocolate on the bimah”.

Shabbat Club Plus
Shabbat Club Plus is held in parallel to Shabbat Club on the 4th Saturday of the month and caters for the 7-10 year olds in our community. Services are fun and stimulating and help engage our youngsters in the meaning of Shabbat, and help them understand the structure and content of a Shabbat service.
