The Current Affairs Discussion Group
Founded in September 2009, the Current Affairs Discussion Group meets regularly every Tuesday at 12.15 in the Synagogue library. The original group of 5 attendees has now expanded to over 20 interested people any one of which will make up the 10 or so people who attend each weekly meeting..
Each week it discusses a wide variety of current affairs events and topics which can range from immediate matters of political interest local, national and international to matters such as University provision, Care for the elderly, GM food and Fair Trade food, Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and all points north, south, east and west. Should Barack Obama have received the Nobel Peace Prize when he did or should John Terry have remained the England football captain.?
Matters to be discussed are introduced by the facilitator Raymond Hart (0208-972-9156 , to email:rhart41@tiscali.co.uk) and added by those attending the meeting. A weekly advice of the meeting is sent out by email and if you wish to be included in that mailing please advise Raymond. The group is open to all age groups within the community and includes former journalists, engineers, member of the IDF, business people, lawyers, people from the medical field, carers, local government councillors, bankers . The only guideline is respect for each other.
Please bring your own lunch ( food to be acceptable within a synagogue - vegetarian only please) and this is a no charge event. The only thing which would stop it happening weekly are religious holidays or consent of the members lunch and a lively set of opinions.
Evening Discussion Groups - New
Following my proposal at the last AGM and the great success of the Current Affairs discussion group now into its third year of operation ,as a trial I am proposing to hold two such evenings on March 26th and April 23rd.
The basic set up is that the facilitator prepares an agenda for matters to discuss on that occasion but all other people can equally bring along their ideas. There is a full and free discussion with the only rule being to respect one another.
If these initial sessions are successful and people attend then I would hand over to them to run subsequently and hope that this will begin yet another series of events within our community and caring for all generations. Contact Raymond Hart: rhart41@tiscali.co.uk
