Shavuot 2023

Shavuot 2023

Dear friend,

As part of our interfaith initiatives, we would like to invite members of the Faith and Belief Forum and your communities to a service and refreshments on Thursday 25 May 2023.  We will be celebrating Shavuot, one of our Harvest Festivals but Shavuot also remembers the giving of Torah to Moses.  In recognition of this great event, Shavuot is sometimes marked by an all-night study session.  We will not go quite this far and Rabbi Adrian has assured us that the service will be short! The service will be led by Rabbi Adrian Schell. The evening will start at 6.45 and end by 9.00 p.m.

After the service we will have a short talk by Rabbi Adrian entitled ꜥGod is still talking – the concept of revelation in Reform Judaism’ and a question and answer session about Shavuot.

We would love everyone to stay on for refreshments where we can chat and enjoy each other’s company some more. Shavuot has become associated with dairy foods, so you will be pleased to hear that cheesecake will be an almost certainty. We will provide non-dairy options as well as gluten free.

There will be members of the community on security duty at the gate, and you may be asked for your name to be checked against the list of attendees.

For catering purposes and to keep us all safe, please RSVP by Thursday 4 May 2023 to rachel@wimshul.org

Please indicate in your reply how many people you are responding for, and how many would like to stay for refreshments plus how many need non-dairy or gluten free. It would help us for future planning if you could tell us which faith community you represent, or whether you are an ‘unaffilliated’ interested individual. Many thanks.

We look forward to welcoming you in the synagogue.

Kind regards,

Rabbi Schell, Sharon Coussins, Adele Hetherington, Judith Freedman and Yvette Ball
